Kelly Sweeps East Village

The unorthodox championship saw multiple car failures, driver outbreaks, and left spectators confused at multiple moments, but one clear thing emerged from the day: Kelly was the decisive victor, winning every single event and sweeping the championship with a perfect 21 points.

The Championship began on inauspicious terms, when, at the 11th hour, Rooftop Racing made the unprecedented decision to relocate the East Village Championship from the indoor precision circuit to an outdoor location, due to safety concerns. The decision came after test trials revealed numerous accident-prone points on the track, and, with insufficient time to install the needed safety barriers to the course, RR decided to move the event all together.

Kelly was initially unnerved by the sudden move, and criticized RR's decision, where, in typical Kelly fashion, he told RR to "...suck [his] ass". A statement that will likely see disciplinary actions.

But, despite his initial grumblings and an early car failure in the first Grand Prix, Kelly found his stride on the semi-rough terrain and clenched the Championship title winning every event. The 21 points has returned Kelly well into the lead in the season standings.

Ambatzidis, the William Sheridan Champion and season leader coming into the Championship, had a disappointing last place finish at East Village. The fast car that performed so well on William Sheridan's High Speed Circuits struggled on the tighter turns at East Village. After two third place finishes in the Grand Prix, it appeared that Ambatzidis would finally rack up some points on the Combined Circuit, where the driver was in second for the first few laps and held Kelly in his sights. But a car failure early in the event retired the driver prematurely, and left Ambatzidis with only 2 points for the day. Ambatzidis is now in second place, tied with Kaplan.

We spoke to Yorgos Yiannopoulos, Huracán Performante's chief mechanic, who said this of the teams performance:

"It was obviously not the day we were looking for. We knew we weren't going to be able to repeat what we did at William Sheridan, but we had hoped to be able to apply more pressure on the Sesto Elemento's, who had the ideal cars for these tracks , and hoped to take home more points to remain competitive in the standings. The car failure in the Combined Circuit was really not ideal. But we're not out, yet. It just means we can't afford to make mistakes at the remaining championships."

Humenry, despite racing very solid races where he picked up multiple second place finishes in the determining races and a couple key wins in the the 2nd Grand Prix, finished in third at the Championship. He remains in 4th place in the overall standings, narrowly trailing Kaplan and Ambatzidis by 6 points.

Kaplan, was again able to find success on the Combined Circuit to take home a 2nd place finish at the Championship. With the Championship bonus Kaplan has moved into 2nd, tied with ambatzidis with 26 points.

With only two championships left, Kelly now has a commanding lead over the field, and can see the Grand Championship in his future.

The Lamborghini Classic goes on hiatus for three weeks, and will return at the end of September.
